Your Wealth or Theirs!?

We all like stuff, right? For me, it's electronics—audio video components, computers, cameras, etc. But, not to the point where I'm going to sacrifice my wealth for them! There is no way that I would allow myself to like those things more than the essential things in life or building wealth. We reached a point in our lives where we eliminated impulsive purchases and began considering how buying a product now would impact our future.

Most people are in love with instant gratification, or perhaps addicted to it. Funny how the gratification slowly diminishes until the item you had to have ends up in a pile with the rest of the stuff—clothing, gadgets, shoes, etc. Manufacturers hire companies to create commercials and advertisements to make you spend money, boosting their bottom line instead of your portfolio. And you're falling for it! Are you looking to build your wealth or theirs?
We waged war on these companies initially, annoyed at their relentless attempts to get our money. Now, with our minds shifted and our financial savvy grown, we find it amusing to recognize the tricks and ploys of these companies targeting our pockets. We're not mad anymore. Do you know why? We own a piece of most of these companies and manufacturers that are selling you stuff! We have tunnel vision, building a portfolio worth at least 25 times our yearly expenses at the end of the tunnel. Have you ever noticed that there are no billboards in tunnels, no advertisements or distractions? There are certain exits we take for vacations or budgeted purchases, but the destination is the end of the tunnel!

Are your dreams and aspirations of being debt-free, worry-free, and financially independent stronger than their marketing budgets? Can you change your mindset to focus on you and your family and the legacy you will leave? Me/US first! Instant gratification and funding wants before needs are way down the list. Speaking of wants, our wants are paid for in cash only, never on credit. The budget is in place, and the discipline that prevents us from reaching for our wallets gets stronger every day. Life is a game in many ways, and so many things are at our fingertips. The game comes into play when you have to make that decision. Is it us or them? Are we growing our wealth or theirs? Am I strong enough to say no to them and yes to us?

Make your strongest want to be out of debt and free from the stress that debt causes. Proverbs 22:7 says, "The borrower is slave to the lender." That verse warns that borrowing money (buying things on credit) can lead to undesirable obligations and loss of freedom. This wisdom comes from the wisest man to ever exist, Solomon. Heed Solomon's words and build your portfolio, not their bottom line!
